Where Tulum Airport actually is
Tulum International Airport opened as a second air gateway to the Riviera Maya, and it was built south of the town of Tulum and inland, not beside the beach. From the terminal to the town is about forty minutes, and the hotels on the beach road take a little longer, because you cross the town first and then take the road that drops down to the coast.
That makes arriving at TQO quite unlike arriving at Cancun. The setting is highway country, the transport waiting outside the terminal is thinner, and the distances to accommodation are half an hour or more in any direction. Booking the transfer before you fly saves having to settle it on the kerb with the plane just landed and the luggage in hand.
Arriving at one airport, leaving from another
The itinerary we are asked for most since TQO opened is not symmetrical: people arrive through Cancun, which has more flights and more timings, and leave through Tulum, which is closer to the hotel at the end of the trip. Or the other way round, depending on the connections. That leaves two separate transfers, each with its own origin and destination, rather than one round trip.
Each is booked on its own and each carries its own fixed price, with the usual logic: flight tracking, a meet and greet inside the terminal with a sign bearing your name, and no charge for waiting if the plane is late. We also run the leg directly between the two airports, which is what solves a badly matched connection or a change of plan mid-holiday.
From the terminal to the whole coast
TQO is not only a way into Tulum. The same terminal works as a gateway for Akumal, Puerto Aventuras, Playa del Carmen and the rest of the coast, and for a good share of the southern accommodation it is closer than Cancun. We cover those destinations from Tulum Airport in both directions, with the vehicle carrying your group alone and picking nobody else up on the way.
For the return from the coast to TQO the hour deserves the same care as in Cancun, because the run is not short and the final stretch crosses the town of Tulum. When you book we confirm the pick-up time the day before and adjust it if the flight changes. Payment is by card, with PayPal or in cash to the representative, in pesos or dollars, with no surcharge for the method you choose.
