Who stays downtown and why
Three very different travellers end up downtown. The one here for work, who needs to be near offices and banks; the one who lands and takes a bus the next day toward Merida, Tulum or Chetumal from the downtown station; and the one staying several days in an apartment because lodging costs considerably less than on the beach strip while the whole city is still next door.
What you find here is different too. Mercado 28 and Mercado 23 are real markets, with food stalls and craft stands; Avenida Yaxchilan is lined with restaurants and cantinas; Parque Las Palapas fills up at night with food stalls. None of that is out on the hotel boulevard. People who choose downtown usually come for that side of Cancun, and what they need is a transfer that leaves them on their own street.
How to give us a downtown address
Downtown Cancun is not organised around long streets but around supermanzanas: numbered blocks with internal walkways and streets that change name once you go in. Phone maps regularly get lost inside them, and an incomplete address can leave the driver circling outside your block while you wait at the door with your luggage and no idea what is happening.
Avoiding that is simple. When booking, write the supermanzana, the block and the number or lot of your accommodation, and add a landmark that is visible from the street: an avenue, a park, the shop on the corner. If the entrance is pedestrian only, say so and we agree on a specific meeting point. With those details the driver arrives directly, and if something does not add up he calls before circling.
Payment, timing and the trip back
The service runs at any hour, and downtown that matters more than it sounds: plenty of flights land late and the city looks unfamiliar at night if it is your first time. With your flight number we follow the arrival and the driver adjusts at no cost. When you book you see the closed price for the whole vehicle; you can pay it by card or PayPal right then, or in cash to the driver, in pesos or in dollars.
For the way back, a round trip removes the awkward part: walking out with suitcases to find a taxi and agree on a fare. We propose a pickup time at the address you gave us, based on your flight, and you confirm it. If your lodging sits inside a supermanzana the driver comes to the door; if the entrance is pedestrian only, we agree on a clear meeting point when the booking is confirmed.
