Where we drop you in Playa del Carmen

Cozumel is reached by sea: there is no road to the island, so the journey happens in two legs. The first is over land, from Cancun Airport to the ferry pier in Playa del Carmen, and that is the leg this service covers. The second is the ferry crossing, which each passenger buys at the pier ticket windows or online and which is not included in our price. We say it here, before you book, so nobody reaches the pier assuming the crossing is already paid for.

  • The entrance to the Cozumel ferry pier
  • The Parque Fundadores area, next to the pier
  • Quinta Avenida, a few steps from the terminal
  • The ferry company ticket windows on the pier itself
  • The hotels in the centre of Playa del Carmen

Exactly how far this transfer goes

This service is the land leg of the journey: we pick you up at Cancun Airport and drop you at the entrance to the ferry pier in Playa del Carmen. That is where our part ends. The crossing to Cozumel is run by a ferry company, is paid separately, and the ticket is bought at the pier windows or online. We neither sell it nor include it in the fare, and we would rather say so before you book.

Once on the island, getting to your hotel is also on you: there is taxi service at the Cozumel pier. We know this split between legs causes confusion, and that is why we explain it instead of selling the trip as a transfer to Cozumel and leaving it there. What we do guarantee is that you reach the pier with your group, luggage unloaded, without paying a peso more.

How the ferry crossing works

The passenger pier is in the centre of Playa del Carmen, next to Parque Fundadores and the start of Quinta Avenida, so the surroundings are pedestrian and busy. Ticket windows are at the terminal itself and more than one company runs the route, each with its own schedule, worth checking on the day. Luggage travels with you on the boat; you hand it over before boarding and collect it on the island.

If your plan involves taking a vehicle to Cozumel, that is a different ferry: cars do not cross from the passenger pier downtown but from a separate dock south of Playa del Carmen, in the Calica and Punta Venado area. They are separate services with different entrances and schedules, so tell us which one you need when booking so we drop you at the right point.

From the pier back to the airport

On the way back the order reverses: you cross from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen and leave for the airport from the pier. With a round trip booked, the driver waits at the terminal entrance at the agreed time and the return price is already closed, so there is no haggling over a fare with suitcases in hand and a flight ahead. This is the leg most people leave until last.

To set that time we use your departure flight and you tell us which sailing you plan to take; if you end up on another one, let us know and we move it without changing the amount. Payment can be made by card or PayPal when booking, or in cash to the driver, in pesos or dollars. The driver speaks Spanish and English, so any change of plan is easy to coordinate.

Frequently asked questions

What is worth knowing before you book

How much is the transfer from Cancun Airport to the Cozumel ferry?

The private transfer to the ferry pier in Playa del Carmen is $69.99 USD per vehicle one way and $139.98 USD round trip, for groups of 1 to 8 passengers. Tolls, taxes, luggage and child seats are included. The ferry ticket is not.

Does the price include the ferry ticket to Cozumel?

No. Our price covers the road trip from the airport to the pier. The crossing ticket is bought by each passenger, at the terminal windows or online, and charged by the ferry company. It is the most common question on this route, so it is written out before you book.

Where exactly do you drop me off?

At the entrance to the passenger pier in Playa del Carmen, beside Parque Fundadores, where Quinta Avenida begins. The driver unloads your luggage with you. From there you walk to the terminal ticket windows, which are in plain sight, and buy your crossing ticket.

Can you take a car over to Cozumel?

Yes, but not from the passenger pier downtown. The vehicle ferry leaves from a separate dock south of Playa del Carmen, in the Calica and Punta Venado area, with its own schedule. If you need that point instead of the downtown pier, tell us when you book.

How do I get to my hotel once I am in Cozumel?

Our service ends at the pier in Playa del Carmen, so transport on the island is on you. There is taxi service at the Cozumel pier and many hotels offer their own pickup; it is worth checking with your accommodation before you cross.

Can you pick me up at the pier when I come back from Cozumel?

Yes. With a round trip the driver waits at the Playa del Carmen pier entrance at the time you confirmed, with the return price already closed. If you end up crossing on a different sailing, just let us know and we move the time without changing the amount.

Can I get an Uber from the airport?

No. Uber cannot pick up inside Cancun Airport: the airport's ground transport concession belongs to the authorised taxis, and taking an Uber would mean walking out of the grounds to the highway, which makes no sense with luggage. In Playa del Carmen, where this transfer ends, it operates in a limited way and cannot collect at many hotels.

Where is the official taxi rank at the airport?

As you come out of arrivals you will find the Caribbean Taxi desks, the company that holds the airport concession: you follow the yellow signs and pay the zone fare there. It is a legitimate option, but it means queuing with your bags at the end of a flight and not knowing the amount until that moment. What is not worth doing is taking up an offer from anyone approaching you at the exit with no uniform and no desk. Booking ahead skips the queue: the price is fixed and the driver waits with a sign in your name.

Where exactly do you drop us?

This transfer ends at the Playa del Carmen ferry pier, beside Parque Fundadores and a few steps from Quinta Avenida. The boat to Cozumel is bought separately, at the ticket office on the pier. Give us the address or the name of your accommodation when you book and the driver takes you to the door.

How it works

From the plane to the hotel, without a single queue

What actually happens from the moment the aircraft doors open.

1
Official meeting point inside the terminal

You book and the confirmation arrives

Pick your destination and vehicle, and within minutes your confirmation is in your inbox with the exact meeting point.

2
Uniformed and identified Smile & Go staff

We wait for you inside the terminal

A uniformed representative waits as you clear customs, holding a sign with your name. Nobody to look for, no stepping outside to haggle.

3
Direct arrival at the hotel entrance

Straight to your hotel door

No stops, nobody else to collect, no detours. You arrive at your hotel entrance, not at a nearby point.

The difference

The three questions we are always asked

Why private instead of a shared shuttle?

A shared shuttle makes several stops before yours: 45 to 90 extra minutes after a long flight. Here the vehicle leaves with you and does not stop until your hotel.

Are you allowed inside the airport?

Yes. We hold an official permit to operate inside CUN and TQO, which is why we can meet you inside the terminal with your name on a sign instead of arranging to meet outside.

What if my flight is delayed?

We track the flight number you give us and move the pick-up ourselves. The waiting is not charged: the delay is not your fault.
