Where we drop you in Puerto Juarez

Puerto Juarez sits north of the city of Cancun and is the gateway to Isla Mujeres: passenger boats to the island leave from its piers, and a little further north, at Punta Sam, the ferry that carries vehicles across operates. Around the port there is a neighbourhood of small lodgings and seafood places that has little to do with the hotel strip. Our transfer runs to the terminal entrance or to the door of your lodging, luggage included.

  • The passenger ferry terminal to Isla Mujeres
  • The Punta Sam pier, for the vehicle ferry
  • The Puerto Juarez neighbourhood and its lodgings
  • The seafood restaurants and the port waterfront
  • The Avenida Lopez Portillo area toward the port

The crossing to Isla Mujeres

Almost everyone who books this transfer is really heading to Isla Mujeres. Puerto Juarez is where the road ends and the sea begins: passenger boats to the island leave from here, and from Punta Sam, slightly further north, the ferry that carries cars and vans departs. They are two separate piers with separate entrances, so it helps to tell us which one you need when you book.

Our service takes you from the airport to the terminal entrance, luggage unloaded and no surprise charges. The boat ticket is not included and is bought separately, at the ticket windows on the pier itself or online. We say it plainly so nobody arrives assuming it is already paid: we cover the road transfer, the crossing is arranged by each passenger.

Reaching the pier with luggage

Crossing to the island means unloading your bags, queuing and loading them again onto the boat, so arriving loaded and in a hurry is the worst combination. That is why a private transfer makes sense on this route: the vehicle carries your group alone, the driver leaves the suitcases at the terminal entrance, and there is no splitting into two cars or waiting for a shared van to fill up before leaving the airport.

If you travel with children, request the seats when booking and tell us their ages; they are fitted from the airport at no charge. If you are bringing bulky luggage, boards or diving gear, tell us as well: with that detail we send a vehicle of the right size instead of solving it in the parking lot. All reasonable group luggage travels inside the price you saw when booking.

From the port back to the airport

On the day you come back from the island the order reverses: you reach the pier with your luggage and need to head for the airport without depending on whatever is parked outside at that moment. With a round trip booked, the driver waits at the terminal entrance at the time you confirmed, price already closed. This is the leg most people leave until late and the one that causes the most trouble.

To set that time we use your departure flight and you tell us which boat you plan to take; if you end up crossing on a different one, let us know and we move it. Booking the round trip pays both legs at once, by card or PayPal, or you can leave the payment in cash to the driver, in pesos or dollars. The driver speaks Spanish and English, so changing the plan does not depend on language.

Frequently asked questions

What is worth knowing before you book

How much is a taxi from Cancun Airport to Puerto Juarez?

The private transfer to Puerto Juarez is $49.99 USD per vehicle one way and $99.98 USD round trip, for groups of 1 to 8 passengers. Taxes, tolls, luggage, child seats and the wait if your flight is delayed are included. The ferry ticket is separate.

Does the transfer include the ferry ticket to Isla Mujeres?

No. The price covers the road trip from the airport to the pier. The boat ticket to Isla Mujeres is bought separately, at the terminal ticket windows or online, and each passenger pays for it. We prefer to say this before you book rather than when you reach the port.

What is the difference between Puerto Juarez and Punta Sam?

Puerto Juarez is the passenger pier: you cross on foot with your hand luggage and suitcases. Punta Sam, a little further north, is the pier where the ferry carries vehicles over to the island. If you have a rental car you need Punta Sam; if you are on foot, Puerto Juarez.

Is it better to cross to Isla Mujeres from Puerto Juarez or the Hotel Zone?

Boats also leave from the Hotel Zone docks, but Puerto Juarez is the usual crossing for travellers coming straight from the airport to the island: it is the point residents use and normally the one with more departures spread across the day.

Can you pick me up at the pier when I come back from the island?

Yes. With a round trip the driver waits at the terminal entrance at the time you confirmed, and the return price is already closed. If you end up crossing on a different boat, just let us know and we move the time without changing the fare.

Can I get to Puerto Juarez in the early hours?

The road transfer operates at any hour, including dawn flights, and we track your arrival with the flight number. Keep in mind that the boats to the island run on their own schedule, so if you arrive very early you may have to wait at the port.

Can I get an Uber from the airport?

No. Uber cannot pick up inside Cancun Airport: the airport's ground transport concession belongs to the authorised taxis, and taking an Uber would mean walking out of the grounds to the highway, which makes no sense with luggage. And beyond Cancun and Playa del Carmen the service is patchy where it exists at all, so counting on it for a transfer with luggage and a time to keep is a gamble.

Where is the official taxi rank at the airport?

As you come out of arrivals you will find the Caribbean Taxi desks, the company that holds the airport concession: you follow the yellow signs and pay the zone fare there. It is a legitimate option, but it means queuing with your bags at the end of a flight and not knowing the amount until that moment. What is not worth doing is taking up an offer from anyone approaching you at the exit with no uniform and no desk. Booking ahead skips the queue: the price is fixed and the driver waits with a sign in your name.

Where exactly do you drop us?

Puerto Juárez is the passenger ferry terminal for Isla Mujeres, the Punta Sam pier for the car ferry, the neighbourhood with its guesthouses and the seafood places along the waterfront. We drop you at the pier, luggage and all, and the ferry is separate. Give us the address or the name of your accommodation when you book and the driver takes you to the door.

How it works

From the plane to the hotel, without a single queue

What actually happens from the moment the aircraft doors open.

1
Official meeting point inside the terminal

You book and the confirmation arrives

Pick your destination and vehicle, and within minutes your confirmation is in your inbox with the exact meeting point.

2
Uniformed and identified Smile & Go staff

We wait for you inside the terminal

A uniformed representative waits as you clear customs, holding a sign with your name. Nobody to look for, no stepping outside to haggle.

3
Direct arrival at the hotel entrance

Straight to your hotel door

No stops, nobody else to collect, no detours. You arrive at your hotel entrance, not at a nearby point.

The difference

The three questions we are always asked

Why private instead of a shared shuttle?

A shared shuttle makes several stops before yours: 45 to 90 extra minutes after a long flight. Here the vehicle leaves with you and does not stop until your hotel.

Are you allowed inside the airport?

Yes. We hold an official permit to operate inside CUN and TQO, which is why we can meet you inside the terminal with your name on a sign instead of arranging to meet outside.

What if my flight is delayed?

We track the flight number you give us and move the pick-up ourselves. The waiting is not charged: the delay is not your fault.
